Introducing the team

We are excited to introduce ourselves- The Remote Teacher team!

Carl Merrison is a Jaru/Kija man from the East Kimberley who has years of experience in the remote education system. He has a passion for sports, hunting, fishing, gold detecting and story telling. He is a trained Cert IV Youth Worker, Level 3 AFL Coach and holds his Gatekeeper Mental Health assessment training and Mental Health First Aid certificates on top of years other professional development.

I’ve seen the best and the worst teachers come and go from my remote community through my education, as an AEIO and as a Clontarf worker. We made this business to support those teachers be the best they can be so our kids get the best of the best.

Hakea Hustler is an experienced teacher holding her Bachelor of Education (P-12) specialising in English and Humanities. Hakea has worked as HOLA, Speech and Debating Coordinator, Transition Coordinator, Engagement Teacher and CMS Facilitator. She has experience in remote, rural, mainstream and Catholic systems- due to an unfortunate case of the travel bug.

Working remote was a big culture shock in my early days. I want to support other remote teachers feel successful, skilled and supported so they don’t have to face the struggles that me and my colleagues did . We want to take some of the hard work out of your experience.
